When Yevette Vasquez arrived at her son’s Texas school, the crowded parking lot caught her attention. Her 12-year-old son, Elijah, explained that the school was hosting “Donuts with Dad.”
The single mother came up with a playful way to join him: dress as a dad for the morning.
They headed home, where Yevette put on a plaid shirt, a baseball cap and a fake mustache, then returned to school together.
Speaking to ABC News, she recalled fathers cheering as they entered the library. Elijah was smiling, and the two enjoyed the breakfast together.
Later, Elijah asked her to share their photos on Facebook. What began as a lighthearted family moment soon reached thousands of people.
Yevette said her goal was to make her son laugh and help him feel included. She also supported the school’s celebration of fathers who were present for their children.
A cap and a pretend mustache made the photos memorable. The love behind them made the story worth sharing.
