A Detroit-to-Los Angeles flight took an unexpected detour on May 26, 2025, after a passenger’s dog became ill in the cabin.
Delta Flight 694 diverted to Minneapolis–St. Paul so the animal could receive care. A veterinarian travelling on the flight helped the dog before landing, and medical personnel met the aircraft on arrival.
The passenger and pet were able to leave the plane, allowing the dog to receive further attention.
Delta said the diversion was made to ensure the sick animal received proper care. AirLive later reported that the airline confirmed the dog had recovered.
For the other passengers, the stop meant a longer journey. For one owner, it meant getting help for a beloved companion when something went wrong far above the ground.
An unexpected veterinary emergency brought together an onboard professional, the flight crew and responders at the airport—all working to get a small passenger the care it needed.
