A dispute over an Airbnb stay became a lawsuit involving allegations of retaliation and the sharing of a private security-camera image.
According to a 2024 federal court order, a guest challenged extra charges following a September 2022 stay in Memphis and posted an unfavorable review.
He alleged that the host later threatened to send his wife security-camera material showing him entering the property with another woman. The lawsuit further alleged that an image was subsequently emailed to his wife’s workplace.
The host denied creating the email account and sending that message.

The court order addressed whether the case could proceed against the host in Mississippi. It explicitly stated that the ruling was not a complete factual finding.
That distinction matters: allegations described in a lawsuit are not the same as proven misconduct. Nor does an image of two people together establish an affair.
The dispute highlights questions about how security footage is used when a disagreement between a host and guest becomes personal.
